Using Your Church Directory As A Prayer List

Using Your Church Directory As A Prayer List

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

JAMES 5:16, ESV

Praying for one another is a wonderful way to show encouragement and support to your fellow members within the church family. Using your Church Directory is a great way to trigger you to pray for other members that may not often come to mind.

Here are some great ideas from members and subscribers on how they encourage one another to pray for all members using their directory.

Physically divide up the Directory.

Physically take the printed directory or PDF and divide it up as evenly as possible between the members and then rotate through those members each month. If you are a church administrator, you can send out a PDF or list of those members via email or post to your church’s newsletter or bulletin under the heading “Members to Pray for this Month.”

Use the mobile app to pray for members.

If your directory program offers a mobile app of the directory, use the member app and go down the list of families and pray for a family each day or week. You can even divide families into each individual family member to pray for or pray for the entire family.

Use the birthday list.

Use the birthdays listed in your church’s directory to pray for members who have birthdays that month or even on that day (if praying daily). If you have a month with fewer members or no members with birthdays listed, use those months to pray for your community, first responders, widows, past members or military members.

Create prayer groups.

If your church is using Instant Church Directory, you can add groups to your directory and divide members into different groups. On the app or using the sub-directories, you can then announce that this month we are praying for the “purple group” or however you choose to name them.

These are just a few of the ideas we’ve received from members, but if you have others, we’d love to hear about them!
